For the Beauty of the Earth

I’m sitting here with my grandma at the edge of a small farm where my siblings take horseback riding. The sun is just beginning to set, bathing the grassy hills in golden light and I can’t help but feel extraordinarily thankful to be spending my evening in this lovely spot. As we go about our … Continue reading

Change the Way You Look…at Yourself

Happy Monday everyone!  I have not posted in OVER 4 MONTHS.  So sorry; I promise to be more post regularly (New Years Resolution Number 5) and really get things going!  Hopefully this post will make up for my absence. It’s been unnaturally cold here in Kansas City, so I spent my weekend curled up underneath … Continue reading

Fashion + Comfort = …

Sweatshirts!  And no, I’m not talking about that one hoodie that we’ve all got in our closets that’s so picked and threadbare it’s practically sheer, yet we just can’t seem to get rid of.  I’m talking about embellished, animal printed, embroidered, and color blocked sweatshirts that you can wear anywhere!  I’m loving this combo of … Continue reading

Free Trials

Earlier this morning, I was surfing the web and debating on what I should post about today, and when I went to click on a link, a new window opened up that said, “Click Here for a Free Trial!”  Whenever I see the word ‘Trial’ I think of hardships, tribulations, and difficulties.

A free trail? No thanks, I have enough of those.

While we each have have trials in some way, whether we have overcome them yet or not, what really tugs at my heartstrings are people who do not have the means or opportunity to fix their situations.  Children in third-world countries that die from diseases that could be treated, the people going hungry or homeless in the streets, the lower-income families with special needs kids that cannot afford the therapy they so desperately need.  I have always been taught to find ways to serve others, but it bothered me that I could not help those who were so far away!

About a year ago, I found this absolutely incredible organization called ‘Sevenly.’  It’s an amazing group of people based in California who design, make, and sell clothing for a different cause each week.  Here’s how it works; you buy a tee or a sweatshirt with a design printed on it that is based on that week’s cause.  $7 of that money goes towards the National Autism Association, pays for a starving child’s meal, or helps fund a surgery.  I really love the idea behind this group and I’m always astounded by the number of people that participate!

This week, you’ll be contributing to surgeries that will save the lives of children who are suffering from craniofacial tumors, cleft lip and cleft palate, and ear-nose-throat diseases. Sevenly is partnering with Mercy Ships, “who will deploy the world’s largest, private hospital ship, the Africa Mercy. On this ship, a team of surgical professionals will perform life-altering surgeries that will transform lives.”

I challenge you guys to go to sevenly.org and buy a product this week.  Wear something that will make you look good on the outside and feel good on the inside!  “Be the change you wish to see in the world.”

Love Fall, for Less.

   Image

Ah, Fall.  The season of cozy sweaters, ankle boots, colorful scarves, hot chocolate, and pumpkin flavored everything is nearly upon us!  I absolutely cannot wait because it is my favorite time of the year!  Aside from never getting tired of the infinite possibilities pumpkin flavoring has to offer, I always look forward to the InStyle Mega-Issue they come out with at the beginning of each new season.  This last issue was a whopping 716 pages!!!  Be still, my heart.

Inside this mine of  information was all of the up-and-coming trends for this Fall season.  While I fell in love with the leather detailing, brightly colored coats, and the oxblood nail color, I drew a sharp intake of breath each time I glanced at a price.  Some bracelets were more than my monthly paycheck!  Falling in love with a peice of clothing and then coming to the realization that you’d never be able to afford it (unless you somehow managed to prove your relation to the Kardashians) is simply cruel.  Fortunately for you, I was determined to find most of the clothes I loved for less.  By the time we reach October, I’ll have posted where to find this seasons trends at a more realistic price.   When this month is over, hopefully your wardrobe will be full, but so will your wallet.

So the question is, what do we do for the remainder of September?  Well, I found and article on one of my favorite blogs about transitioning your wardrobe into fall, and while it’s still too warm to wear boots quite yet, other fall pieces are starting to make an appearance.  The trick is mixing some of our lighter-weight sweaters or cardigans with our summer wardrobe.  Let’s get started!

My FAVORITE pairing is a maxi dress with a cardigan, or a thin sweater with a maxi skirt.  Whichever combination you choose, keep the colors bright!  Yellow is a really good transitional color, as well as a petal pink, teal or a cobalt blue.

When it comes to prints, you can never go wrong with nautical stripes!  Bright florals and tribal prints are also high on the list for summer/fall favorites.  A more fall based trend is a bold oriental pattern, and I will be posting about that in detail later on this month!

You can find similar styles at Target, Forever 21, or you might already have something in your own closet!  Explore the endless possibilities your current wardrobe has to offer before going out and purchasing a new article of clothing.  Have fun experimenting with new patterns and color this week, and try working out of your comfort zone!  The results might surprise you.

Have a great rest of your day! Never let anyone dull your sparkle.
